Felicity
1998–2002
A college drama while I’m in college, what a great time to talk about Felicity Theme Song!
So, first let’s see what this show is about: The series opens at Felicity’s high school graduation, where she asks Ben Covington, a classmate on whom she has a crush, to sign her yearbook.
Moved by his comment that he wished they had gotten to know each other further, she changes her education plans completely, deciding to follow Ben to New York rather than attend Stanford University as a pre-med student.
Felicity’s overbearing parents, concerned about Felicity’s seemingly rash decision, come to New York to attempt to persuade her to return home and “get back on track”. Felicity has second thoughts about her decision, but soon realizes that she came not only to follow Ben but to discover her true inner self.
In its four-season run, Felicity had two opening themes. The first two seasons’ theme, the one sung by a girl, was simply referred to as “Felicity Theme”. It was part of the first soundtrack—Felicity: Music From The Hit Television Series. The song is credited to Welsh singer-songwriter Judith Owen.
For seasons three and four, a new male-sung theme song was used. “New Version of You” also made it to an official soundtrack, the second, and last—Felicity: Senior Year. The song is credited to the show’s multi-talented creator, J. J. Abrams, and filmmaker Andrew Jarecki. I’m pretty sure one of them performed/recorded the song.
The show’s producers totally tripped on season two’s Twilight Zone episode, where they created a whole new Twilight Zone-inspired theme music and video sequence. Luckily, this Felicity addict combined all the unique versions of the theme songs in one video. See below.
The author of the video gathered all the Felicity opening themes. The first two seasons were done by Amy Jo Johnson, and seasons 3 & 4 were done by J.J. Abrams.
