Reba
2001-2007
For a television series named and created after a country music legend, it only makes sense that its theme song was sung by no one else. Of course, the theme song for Reba was performed by Ms. Reba McEntire and is entitled “I’m a Survivor.” The single came off of her Greatest Hits Vol.3: I’m a Survivor album, released in 2001, and was one of only three new songs included in the compilation.
The song was written by songwriters Shelby Kennedy and Phillip White. The song is entirely about Ms. McEntire—how she is a “survivor” from when she was born prematurely to becoming a single mom and then some.
The chorus from the TV series differs slightly from the album version, but has the same general theme.
Lyrics
My roots are planted in the past,
Though my life is changing fast,
Who I am is who I want to be.
A single mom, who works too hard,
Who loves her kids and never stops.
With gentle hands and the heart of a fighter.
I’m a survivor.

Reba McEntire – I’m Survivor
Lyrics
I was born three months too early
The doctor gave me thirty days
But I must have had my mama’s will
And Gods amazing graceI guess I’ll keep on livin’
Even if this loves to die for
‘Cause your bags are packed and I ain’t cryin’
You’re walking out and I’m not trying
To change your mind cause I was born to beThe baby girl without a chance
A victim of circumstance
The one who ought a give up, but she’s just
Too hard headed!
A single mom who works two jobs
Who loves her kids and never stops
With gentle hands and a heart of a fighter
I’m a survivorI don’t believe in self pity
It only brings you down
May be the queen of broken hearts
But I don’t hide behind the crown
When the deck is stacked against meI just play a different gameMy roots are planted in the pastAnd though my life is changing fastWho I am is who I want to beThe baby girl without a chanceA victim of circumstanceThe one who ought a give up, but she’s justToo hard headed!A single mom who works two jobsWho loves her kids and never stopsWith gentle hands and a heart of a fighterI’m a survivorA single mom who works two jobsWho loves her kids and never stopsWith gentle hands and a heart of a fighterI’m a survivorBut I must have had my mamas willAnd Gods amazing grace.
